Join us for an engaging talk, with Kelly Kiley of Rough Trade Records, as we delve into the iconic world of this legendary independent record label. From punk classics to genre-defining releases by The Smiths and The Strokes, Rough Trade Records has shaped the landscape of independent music. Originating from the Rough Trade Record Shop in 1976, the label quickly became a hub for DIY and punk culture. Over the past 38 years, Rough Trade Records has consistently delivered high-quality, diverse, and innovative music. With offices in London and New York, the label continues to champion the music they love and support artists' growth.

Kelly was born and bred in Port Talbot and went on to study Performing Arts at Neath College (The first time that a college was offering musician led diplomas). Following college Kelly gained a place at Guildford School of Acting to study stage management and graduated in 1996. The same year she started working at Rough Trade and has worked with artists such as Pulp, The Strokes, Super Furry Animals, Catatonia, Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes and Georgia. In a records and management capacity. In 2017 she started to work across all the Beggars Group labels 4AD, Matador, XL and Young in an international role.

The Gate is housed in a Grade II listed church building, formerly the Plasnewydd Presbyterian Church and school hall. It is located in Keppoch Street overlooking Plasnewydd Square in the Roath area of Cardiff.
